Matariki is a Maori name for a cluster of stars also it’s known as the Pleiades. Matariki means “eye of God” (which is Mata Ariki) or “little eyes” (Mata Riki). According to a myth, when Ranginui (the sky father), and Papatuanuku (The earth mother) were separated by their children, Tāwhirimātea (the God of winds) became so angry that he tore his eyes out and threw them into the heavens.

It is to cold for planting (or anything) so it is a time to relax, eat, and enjoy a (very) good company!

Matariki is a time for reflection. So light a candle to remember loved ones who have passed away!
3=Write down your hopes and dreams for the year ahead
Look up at the stars, Go for a walk in your neighborhood (get to know it's streams, rivers, trees) listen to the birds as well!
4=Also play games and tell stories to people
Matariki is also about having fun with your friends and family, you can also learn to play Maori games or even Maori board games. If not then you can just tell some stories with your whanau!!!
